The Junior League of Lufkin, in partnership with Angelina County churches, businesses and service organizations, hosts the annual Back to School Bonanza on the second Saturday of August each summer. Due to the hardships of COVID-19, Back to School Bonanza will be a drive-thru event this year.
Back to School Bonanza provides 2,800+ FREE backpacks filled with school supplies to Angelina County school children (PreK-12). In addition to the backpacks, children may receive a free health kit, school uniforms, shoes and socks. Quantities are first come, first serve, so we ask that you take a few minutes and pre-register with the link below. Pre-registration is highly recommended.
Pre-registered families with the registered parent's last name starting with A-M are encouraged to pickup between 8:00-10:00am. Pre-registered families with the registered parent's last name starting with N-Z are encouraged to pickup between 10:00am-12:00pm.
The map shows the flow of traffic for pre-registered (pink line) and needs to register (yellow line) families. The lines will start at Frank Street and flow north. Traffic will not be allowed to merge into the line from intersecting streets.
The motto of Back to School Bonanza has been “Together, we will make a difference in the lives of the children in Angelina County!” and it is truly a community wide event. In addition to numerous community partners and volunteers, many thanks are also due to the Junior League of Lufkin’s Helping Hands sponsors; without their generous gifts, it would not be possible to pull off such a large endeavor.

Camp Get Fit/Kids in the Kitchen is held during the summer for kids entering grades 3-5 in the JD’s Center of Hope in Lufkin.
Campers participate in cooking, exercise, and health awareness with a focus on the importance of making lifelong healthy choices.
Kids in the Kitchen is part of a national campaign of the Association of Junior Leagues International. Find our more here!

Girls Rock Academy is one of JLL’s newest projects to empower teenage girls with the skills and mindset to reach their full potential. The program is designed to mentor 7th grade girls chosen by their teachers and counselors. JLL mentors meet with the girls twice a month to discuss topics such social media, drug awareness, healthy eating, etiquette dining, community service, mental health, self-esteem,body image, and healthy relationships.
Beautiful Me is a project of the Provisional Class. This empowerment event is a partnership between JLL, The Chamber, and other community donors. Participants in this event are 7th grade girls of the JLL Girls Rock Academy. The girls are taken to a clothing store to select an outfit of their choice that makes them feel confident and beautiful, then treated to a make-over at a salon. They are taken by limousine to the Women’s Networking Luncheon where they are recognized, celebrated, and given the opportunity to see professional women making a difference in their communities. It’s truly a day they will always remember!

Living on the Edge is a unique experience designed to help participants understand what life might be like with a shortage of money and an abundance of stress.
During the simulation, participants role-play the lives of low income families as they work to provide for food, shelter and other basic necessities during a typical month. JLL is offering this experience to schools, churches, businesses, social service agencies and other organizations.
Once the simulation is complete, all participants enter into a powerful, interactive wrap-up conversation. The simulation creates awareness, empathy and sensitizes participants to the 20% of people in Angelina County living on the edge of poverty.

Every year, the Junior League of Lufkin spends countless hours and effort to raise funds for Angelina County, and we are pleased to offer a portion of these funds to qualified non-profits and organizations.
We accept applications and review how an organization's mission and needs align with ours and determine how we can help.
