March 2, 2024

10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Touch-a-Truck is a FREE event that provides a unique opportunity for children to explore vehicles of all types including public service, emergency, utility, construction, landscaping, transportation, delivery, and much more – all in one place! Children will be allowed to touch their favorite vehicles, get behind the wheel, and meet the people who help build, protect, and serve our community. Live music and food trucks will also be part of the day’s entertainment. We have wristbands available for kids for $5 that includes activities such as face painting, an inflatable slide, and a petting zoo!

The Junior League of Lufkin, in partnership with Angelina County churches, businesses and service organizations, hosts the annual Back to School Bonanza on the second Saturday of August each summer.  Due to the hardships of COVID-19, Back to School Bonanza will be a drive-thru event this year.

Back to School Bonanza provides 2,800+ FREE backpacks filled with school supplies to Angelina County school children (PreK-12).  In addition to the backpacks, children may receive a free health kit, school uniforms, shoes and socks.  Quantities are first come, first serve, so we ask that you take a few minutes and pre-register with the link below. Pre-registration is highly recommended.

The map shows the flow of traffic for pre-registered (pink line-FRIDAY) and needs to register (yellow line-SATURDAY) families. The lines will start at Frank Street and flow north. Traffic will not be allowed to merge into the line from intersecting streets.

The motto of Back to School Bonanza has been “Together, we will make a difference in the lives of the children in Angelina County!” and it is truly a community wide event.  In addition to numerous community partners and volunteers, many thanks are also due to the Junior League of Lufkin’s Helping Hands sponsors; without their generous gifts, it would not be possible to pull off such a large endeavor.

If you would like to volunteer or your business or organization wants to help, please contact us here:

Camp Get Fit/Kids in the Kitchen is held during the summer for kids entering grades 3 and 4 at the Boys and Girls Club of Lufkin.

Campers participate in cooking, exercise, and health awareness with a focus on the importance of making lifelong healthy choices.

Kids in the Kitchen is part of a national campaign of the Association of Junior Leagues International. Find our more here!

Living on the Edge
living on the edge.png

Living on the Edge is a unique experience designed to help participants understand what life might be like with a shortage of money and an abundance of stress.

During the simulation, participants role-play the lives of low income families as they work to provide for food, shelter and other basic necessities during a typical month. JLL is offering this experience to schools, churches, businesses, social service agencies and other organizations.

Once the simulation is complete, all participants enter into a powerful, interactive wrap-up conversation. The simulation creates awareness, empathy and sensitizes participants to the 20% of people in Angelina County living on the edge of poverty.

Disbursements

Every year, the Junior League of Lufkin spends countless hours and effort to raise funds for Angelina County, and we are pleased to offer a portion of these funds to qualified non-profits and organizations.

We accept applications and review how an organization's mission and needs align with ours and determine how we can help.
