VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR 2011
Susan Belasco
The 2011 Volunteer of the Year is an incredible asset to not only our League and her family, but also her workplace and the other places she volunteers. She is always willing to step up and get the job done—whether it is her job, or not—and she will never brag about herself and what all she does to improve the lives of others. She likes to stay out of the spotlight and you will never hear her "tooting her own horn" about her accomplishments. One of her friends describes her as, "the meaning of the word volunteer. Life is never too busy for her to say no to someone in need or when something needs to get done. She just makes it happen alongside everything else that has to be taken care of in her own life."
Susan is no nonsense and always gets the job done right, but in the sweetest, kindest, most low-keyed manner possible. In addition to League responsibilities, she is a member of the Museum Guild Board and is active with Relay for Life. She takes a real interest in peoples’ lives. From her friends to those less fortunate, she truly wants to help when they are struggling. As proof is her profession….she dedicates her day to helping people with a disability and those who are of age understand their Social Security benefits. She never meets a stranger and has a heart for everyone she meets! She is…busy, busy, busy, but never too busy to stop and show compassion and care to someone just when they need it the most! One of her friends said, "I have the upmost admiration and respect for all she does—she is not only my fashion role model (she always has the perfect outfit beautifully accessorized!), but also a role model for life—she shows how to be encouraging, stay positive, get the job done right, and remain a total lady at all times. If we had a designation for the "Ultimate League Lady," she would win it hands down."
Susan is selfless and wears many hats. She is a wife, mother of three, sister, and a friend to many. She is understanding and she always thinks of everyone else before herself. She is always giving and never expects anything in return. She is stylish—as Audrey Hepburn would tell her, "You look fabulous, darling!" She is amazing--always giving 100% and nothing less. She is noble—a true, genuine and loyal friend that is always there. Selfless, Understanding, Stylish, Amazing and Nobel definitely represent this special woman that we all know as Susan Belasco, our Volunteer of the Year.
