Simply Done

The Simply Done placement is focusing on our grant recipients this year. We think it is a natural fit to continue the relationship and offer our support to these community partners.

Nine organizations have been identified for the Simply Done projects. In August, the Simply Done committee taped and sorted over 500 letters for the Lufkin State School. During the September general meeting Junior League members decorated 100 bookmarks that were given to the Lufkin High School Independent Living Skills Class. The October meeting league members will be donating baby wipes to help build-up the supply for the Rainbow Room closet. The last fall project will be supporting the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI). We will collect food staples to stock the pantry for patients who are out of funds by the end of the month. Also, new and used kitchen utensils and dishtowels will be collected. These supplies will go to the Burke Center to be given to patients that move into their own home, but do not have simple items needed to set up housekeeping.

In the spring we are planning a copy paper drive, to donate to the X-Change Place. We will also help the Mosaic Center to prepare for the annual tennis tournament. Children’s Books and puzzles will be collected to donated to CASA and Angelina Alliance for Children. And finally league members will write notes of encouragement to be given to students in the S.W.A.T. program (Students Working Against Truancy).

Each organization had specific requests in which JL could help them. We think all the small efforts put forth will make a huge impact to children and families in the community.
